As mentioned in our section "Reading Usenet", sometimes you will come across individuals in newsgroups who are rude and want to ellicit a reaction from readers. These individuals are called "trolls". It is best to stay away from trolls, they love attention and any response you give will add fuel to their "flame".

Kill Files
Using "kill files" can remedy any annoying troll problems you have once you record the email address of the troll.

Sometimes Arguing is ok
Sometimes arguing is allowed on Usenet, make sure you check with the charter of the newsgroup you'd like to argue in. Also, just observe the overall general tone of the newsgroup you'd like to argue in. If others are constructively arguing, maybe you could too.

Common Sense
Common sense is the main tool you can use when posting articles to Usenet Newsgroups.
Just observe the community, read charters, and lastly, have fun!
